CA77 springs for spirited riding, not Shriner parades?
CA77 springs for spirited riding, not Shriner parades?I'm enjoying my '64 CA77, but I find that the ride is decidedly "squishy." It's nice most of the time, but I've been known to bottom out the suspension with my 178 pounds and this makes me uncomfortable. I'd like to know if there's a way to stiffen up the springs on the front and the back to make the bike handle a bit better.
Thanks dream shocksI saw a Dream for sale on ebay several years ago that had chrome spring rear shocks. Someone asked what kind of shocks he used and he said they were from a Honda 250 Shadow.
Chebur,
Here are several links that will probably work for you. The length on both are in the ballpark, its the diameter of the mounting eye that may be of concern. You may have to figure out a way to enlarge the eye's diameter if its too small. Both are adjustable to your riding style. The Rebel shocks will work as the shock diameter is just narrow enough to clear the fender bracket. Sorry but I can't help you on the front springs. Perhaps someone else has an answer. Bill Silver describes it as "riding on a cloud". My '65 has bottomed out, but doesn't all the time. I have been over 200 lbs a good share of my riding time.
Are you sure your shocks aren't just worn out?
Re: ShocksNo way. They're only 50 years old. ;) I guess it could be bad shocks, but since I do feel like I'm riding on a cloud and not a hammock, I'd be inclined to think that they're performing as intended.
I've got modern tires (with Portawalls of course) and the cornering is remarkably good. I just hate that feeling of going into a corner and having no more compression to the springs. It makes things a bit unpredictable. I guess I'm stuck with it though. I don't ride a Dream because of the handling. I ride it because it looks cool. Rebel shocks would mess that look up. I'm wondering about preload bushings on both springs.
