Tire Flaps

Post by Bob750 » Sun Apr 21, 2013 12:47 pm

I've got new Firestone WWs and new inner tubes and I'm going to get the stainless spoke sets. What I need are 2 Tire Flaps [44713-250-000]. Anyone know of a source? A guy at one shop said, "you don't know about the duct tape trick? Just wrap some duct tape around the inside of the rim in place of the rubber flap."

This seems silly to me, and I almost laughed out loud at the notion. What are we all doing out there with no flaps on the market? I suppose I could try to fashion one out of some inner tube... Then again, I haven't seen what's inside there yet as the old equipment is still on the rims...

Ideas? Or is this just a Dream of mine?

I haven't bought any from them, but Powersports Parts and Accessories has them on ebay for $3.99.

Bob,

I bought mine at Cycle Gear, I would think any shop would have them. Looks like you got a Cycle Gear store in Lomita, give them a call. I think they called them rim strips tho. Tell them the rubberband that goes around the rim, that should do it.

Thank you both!

I have already ordered a pair off the eBay store (kandkscooters) $7.98 shipped. I'll keep Cycle Gear in mind for the future.

Actually, if you are talking rim strips, I use electrical tape in most instances. Doesn't make the gummy mess of duc tape and you can stretch it tight with a few rounds. Easy to use an exacto then and cut out the hole for the valve stem. You can keep all the tape in the valley of the rim to make mounting tires easier. If you get tape up on the flats you will have a hard time setting the bead.

I've taken more than a few tires off to find electrical tape. I think that was actually a pretty common replacement.
