I installed an YTX7L AGM in my Dream about 2 years ago. Its smaller than the original, but has plenty of cranking power. I run with the headlight on no problem. I made some adapters and used some extra rubber so the wiring could be protected from shorting on the bracket. I picked it up on eBay. I plan on using one on the CL77 I'm putting together. It was under $30.

YTX7L AGM Replacement

Post by nevernotbusy » Tue May 06, 2014 7:39 pm

OldStan, any chance you could show us your adapter and rubber fittings? Seems like this battery is a no brainer, but would love to see how to seat it comfortably in the housing.

Thanks!

+1 on this size and capability. Works great. Same solution here as well with the foam blocks. When I bought a Shorai battery for one of my other bikes it came packed in a box full of these great foam pieces to pad things up for undersized batteries so I used that. That structural type foam used for things like pool noodles works real good for this. doesn't hold water but holds it's shape and doesn't crumble.

Just got a chance to take pictures. I used an old truck mud flap for the rubber. The brackets were cut out of a piece of square tubing. Notice the right bracket is bent back slightly for clearance.

Now I'm looking for a narrower version for my CL77.

Mines a late 63 (CA78 frame.) It takes the long narrow battery.

I'm ready for a battery for my CL77, realized the one I'm using the CA77 won't fit, too wide.
Haven't been able to locate an AGM that will fit. There is a Li-Ion available, but I'm leery about the charging, although I have installed a regulator. Also there's the price, about $100.
