CARB FLOAT question

Post by nevernotbusy » Thu Sep 11, 2014 12:16 pm

I'm rebuilding my carb, and it has me wondering if it's worth replacing the float or not, and how to tell if it's a good idea.

The float, although showing regular signs of wear and tear, still floats. I notice that one of the canisters can be poked in slightly and makes a very slight pop noise like when you pop the top of a snapple lid.

I submerged it in water to check for bubbles, and there aren't really any from what I can tell.

IF anything, when it floats, I notice there's a VERY slight lean towards one side (opposite of the side that pops slightly)

Is this of any concern?

Thanks!

Its probably OK, the sides are pretty flimsy. Did you use hot water? If not, a pinhole leak may not bubble. Floats are available from Honda if you're not sure, and it's not that hard to replace later with the carb on the bike if you need to.

That's true. Seems fine to me, I'm just gonna give it a go as it is and go from there.
Thanks!
