Oil filter washer size

Post by The Road » Thu Dec 11, 2014 10:56 pm

Hello,
I am new here. Just got back into riding after taking 45 years off. I have a Harley Fat Boy, but I still have my first motorcycle. It is a CA77E as stamped on the engine. It is titled as a 1964.
I bought it in 1966.

I just started a rebuild. I pulled the oil filter apart to find it does not have the pin in the shaft nor the washer. I can fabricate what I need. Would someone please give me the dimension of the washer and material. Is it steel or stainless steel or aluminum? I can make a pin. What is it made of?
The whole assemble came out in one piece. I doubt I lost them in the crankcase. I will make a magnet around if they are made of steel.
Thanks,
CB

Ok does anyone have a guess what the washer and pin are made from?

The pin and washer are steel. I know because I've had to use a magnet to get the washer out before. They tend to stick to the face of the filter then drop off when the shaft comes out.

Thanks old Stan.
I can get pretty close to the right sizes.

A long time ago my wife found the bike in a garage where I left it it PA when we moved to Texas.
For a 50th birthday party she took it to shop to get it running. I rode it around my son's property, did a few donuts and some wheelies and parked it until this week.
I guess the jugheads that go it running failed to replace the washer and pin. Good thing I took it apart before it tried to start it up and run the piss out of it.

Thanks again.
