Need stuff -

Post by cadman » Fri Jun 30, 2017 12:09 pm

I am trying to get a 1962 Dream to the point where it looks like a Dream again. It came from New Hampshire and was apparently parked somewhere near the ocean. I will have to replate all the chrome and remove rust from the rest of the bike.

Took the speedometer apart and it is totally beyond repair. So I need one and not having much finding one. Thought someone here might have one they want to sell.

I also need the lower fork trim pieces - it may be possible to "save" these but a set in better shape would help.

Apparently the tank side trim is different from all others so they are going to the plater.

This bike had the carb covers and the original air pump and the rear rack.

Any help appreciated. Thanks - Don

Don

For the tank panels - is it a 305 or a 250? The panels and tanks are different.

I have some beanten up - but not rusty lower fork trim pieces.

How about some pictures?

I am 99% sure it is a 305 - - engine numbers verify that

At this point the cost to replate the tank side covers is $135 each - this is at a plater/restorer - I can find one on the internet but it is about the same price and not perfect. If the side cover plating works then the fork covers can probably also be done. The rims and spokes are available and I can respoke and true.

The real problem is the speedometer - I assume it is the same on later models - not to concerned about it reading correctly. The rest of the bike will cleanup fairly well although the aluminum will take some time. Here a few pics - hope they post this time the last one is he 1975 I did a couple of years ago.

Thanks - Don

I think your tank panels look better than the spares I have. I was lucky to get NOS ones with my 1960 Dream.

Yep yours is a 305 judging from the tank panels.

Well I didn't think you could find a worse one than mine - but you have done it -
I think I will the tank panels off for plating and see what happens.

Either one of those have a speedometer?? Is the rear rack a stock or after market??

Thanks - Don

Hi Don

The speedos for both of these were toast so I have been searching for the past 6 years for replacements and got a couple of nice ones.

The C72 is part restored now but I haven't touched the 305. Speedos do come up from time to time.

The rack is aftermarket but I have had it re-chromed.

Is the paint base/clear or one step?

I am still on the fence with this bike - I think I have several parts that might be worth something. I am wondering if you know approximately value of them.

Air pump and brackets
Carb covers
Rear Rack.

Thanks - Don
