Headlight stopped working

Post by vossler » Wed Jun 27, 2018 7:50 am

New to the forum here, and to CA77's in general, but have tinkered with lots of bikes. Bought a 67 CA77 out of a barn it had been sitting in since 1983, got it running, everything appeared to work great.

Second time firing the bike, low beam stopped working, flipped up to high beam and it worked for a short while, then it too, stopped working. The bulb appears to be good. Measured voltage at the headlight, no 12v.

Are there fuses I am not seeing? Could it be in the switch? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I’d check the connections to the bulb and clean them, then, using an ohm meter, the ground connection at the trim ring, the headlight bucket to frame, then the headlight switch on the headlight housing, then the high/low beam switch on the handlebar. There is no fuse for the headlight.

Where is the headlight switch on the headlight housing located? I don't recall seeing a switch there.

There isn’t, I was thinking CB77. The rest of my post is fine. Check the ignition switch connections for corrosion too.

Disconnect the wires to the bulb and put a meter across on the Ohms range. Do you get a reading?

Was the engine running or not when the bulb(s) stopped working?

Engine was running when it stopped working. I've got continuity across the bulb, I checked that first.
