1965 CA77 Dream1965 CA77 DreamI am new to the forum, but I just purchased my Dream last week. I will be trying to get it in good running condition and will surely need some expert advice before I am done. I will try to post updates as I go. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
Re: 1965 CA77 DreamWelcome to the Forum.
You'll need to host you pictures on something like Flickr or Photobucket. We can help with that if you get stuck. Plenty of advice here but we like to see your pictures so that we can enjoy your progress. Also, please put your location in your profile. You never know there might be someone just up the road..... Generally a good idea to resize as you upload. I generally resize to 800 x 600, which seems about right for most forums. ok I will try that hopefully tonight. In the meantime I have a question. Is there a kill switch somewhere on these bikes. I have no fire at either plug and the starter only turns if I jump across the starter solenoid bolts. I cleaned the points and I have 12 volts at the wire coming to the points. Also I have 12 volts at the small wire on the coil. I am at a loss as to what to check next. Maybe someone else has had this problem before. Thanks in advance.
H; you have at least three or four different things going on here. first there is no kill switch. if you have 12v anywhere then the main fuse is OK. no spark? plugs/wires/point gap/battery voltage. you need a good, fully charged battery. you need good(new) plugs. you need to have a good strong connection from the high tension leads to the plug caps (trim the wire ends to clean metal). set the points to 014. no spark? open them up a bit, that can help sometimes.
the starter switch is a ground contact at the handlebar. ground the yellow/black at the solenoid. if the starter runs, it's the switch at fault. no run, it's the solenoid (or low voltage). if you are running the starter a bunch and not charging, you will take the battery down to a point where it will be difficult to start even in a perfect world which is probably not the world your bike is in. Good luck Randy
