Starter Clutch Guide Location?

Post by Dr. Frankenstein » Sun Mar 31, 2019 3:55 pm

Does anyone out there have a pic of the right side of their CA77 engine with the cover removed, in the area between the starter motor and the rotor?

I have to replace my Starter Clutch Guide and am unsure of its position. The parts manual (P. 34, #22) is no help as to where that thing goes on the engine case in relation to the starting motor cable clamp.

What does it DO, anyway...?

Starter clutch?

If you mean the starter SPROCKET guide I have a picture showing where it goes, PM me with your E-mail address and I'll send it to you.

The parts book calls it a Stopper - starter sprocket and that's basically what it does, stops the sprocket getting too close to the back of the starter clutch/rotor.

The cable retainer fits in the highest hole, OUTSIDE the alternator register the stopper goes in the front hole inside the register and fixes to the top crankcase half.

If you get it in the wrong place the stator won't go on anyway, unless you are talking about something completely different.

Hi DJM;

Yes, that's Exactly it! It's called a Stopper, Starting Sprocket. I still have yet to put it on the bike, I just don't know exactly where it goes, esp. in relation to the Clamp, Starting Motor Cable (Part #3).

Check your messages. Thanks!

Just to the right edge of the sprocket is a threaded hole. .................lm

The upper one is for the starter wire.
The sprocket one fits the lower with the bent down end to the right. ..................lm
