Carb Question - Kinda Just Confirming...

Post by Dr. Frankenstein » Sat Apr 13, 2019 8:55 am

I took a CA77 out on the road yesterday, probably the first time it's run under its own power since the 80's, and first gear ran okay, but then in second it started to throttle intermittently, and also didn't seem to want to go into second - THAT could be a clutch adjustment problem, yes..?

But as far as the goopy throttle response, (stuttery, jerky, etc), that is *probably a dirty carb, yes...? I'm just asking for a second opinion...

If the points are adjusted correctly and all the ignition leads, coil, plugs etc are ok then almost certainly that carb needs another clean. Also, something I got caught out on was the insulator between the carb and head, on the ca it has a cutaway and a small bleed hole. Someone had fitted a plain insulator, changing for the correct one improved the response immensely.

Yes, mine still has the original insulator - currently I have the little cutaway facing the carb, and not the engine - is that the correct way?

The carb should have been pristine, but you know how that goes - I'll go over it again and throw it in the ultrasonic for a good while, see what happens.

I think you have it the right way round, the o-rings would be together if fitted the wrong way round.
