Gear compatibility

Post by JSchuster15 » Thu Jun 30, 2011 1:08 pm

I have a 1964 Honda Dream 305 and it runs and drives. 2nd gear is missing a bunch of teeth and doesn't work. I have 72 cb450 engine, at least I think that's what it is. Will the gear from the 450 scrap engine work in my 305 engine? Would it be compatible?
Thanks
Jason

Hi Jason

2nd gears for Dream are 23430-262-000 mainshaft 23t

and 23441-250-010 28t countershaft

For cb450 23441-292-030 - countershaft 36t 23431-292-060 second-third 22/26t mainshaft

The CB450 mainshaft gear is a twin gear doing second and third so the design of the two trannies is completely different.

You will be better looking out for some spare Dream transmission shafts on eBay.

Be careful if you are riding the bike with gear teeth missing as they may get hooked up into the rest of the transmission with dire consequences........

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip! I will probably not ride it now that I know what the problem is.
