1962 CA72 Dream 250 restoration

Post by chugheshc » Sat Sep 03, 2011 5:40 pm

Hi Folks, I am new here, and have a dusty 1962 dream in the garage I am thinking about restoring.
No pictures yet, sorry.
I am estimating it will take me about 2 years to do myself, and about 6 months/$4K for someone else to do.
Am I dreaming? (pun intended).
I was given the bike in 1994, got it running and promptly hooked up the battery backwards and burned up the selenium rectifier and some wires. I've been hauling it around the country ever since then, finally seems like I have the means/circumstances to start to work on it.
Any caveats to warn me about before I jump in?
I've been reading some of the restore threads (esp 4shorts 1965 dream... fabulous!), it is really making my mouth water!
cheers

It's really though to say without pics. If all it needs is wiring work, you can knock that out in no time. Do you want a complete nuts and bolts restoration? Driver quality?

Either way, you are making the best choice if you believe you are up to it. (and this isn't a real hard project)

Hey folks, I pulled some boxes off the top, and will get serial numbers/pictures shortly.
I have realized I also have a trunk bag to match the white (yellow now) fiberglass panniers.
I am getting a little excited. I also found a 1/25 jaguar xk kit from when I put it all away in 1995.
Serial numbers/pics to follow shortly, promise.
cheers

Moderator, (if there is a moderator) can you move this thread to the restore forum? I didn't realize there was one when I started it.

Ok, some pics.
I have to look up where to find the frame serial.
The engine serial is CA72E - 210658.
I have all kinds of spares, the shop manual etc.
Best news is that it was actually on the road in 83 - so it only sat for about ten years before I got it running in 1994 and then left it to sit for another 15 years or so.Image
