I have gone back and fourth with that same question. Not necessarily between those two bikes but with the whole question of how versitile is the Dream. I looked into a small sporty (HD), as well as other smaller bikes, and finally came up with my answer. I liked the looks and the sounds of the Dreams, and there are thousands of sporty's out there and they mostly look the same. I wanted something DIFFERENT! That is why "I" chose a Dream. Now with all that being said, these are old bikes, and most are quirky. I have been riding a CA95 for a few years and the gearing sucks. It really feels like it needs a 5th gear. I can easily ride that bike at 45 mph. But it definitely takes a bit to get to that speed. Now the 305 Dream, I can do 65, but its not fast off the line. I can't keep up with the new bikes off the line, but thats ok. I usually catch up at the next light. I have never ridden a superhawk, but I think they are very cool as well. I guess it all comes down to what you like. I think if I do another rebuild, I am going to do a BlackBomber :)

Yeah, with my 305 dream I'm usually wishing for a 5th gear at about 45 mph. The Superhawk is geared more appropriately for faster speeds and has two carbs as opposed to the one carb Dream. My Dream is pretty quick off the line and is geared really well for in town riding. I just rebuilt the engine this last spring. It's a great bike for around town and people love it. I'm just putting my 305 Superhawk project back together and I've never rode one so we'll see. Of the 305's, the Dream was my first but I wish that the Superhawk was instead.

You know, I only have a little under 500 miles on the rebuild and the fastest I've had it was 60 on the speedo (which I think is pretty accurate). But it honestly feels like there is plenty of throttle left at that speed. It's cold here now so I think I'll take it out a couple more times this year. I'm kinda thinking I'll test it's top speeds next spring but who knows; sometimes we'll have nice stretches of 50 degree weather in November. Although last Thanksgiving was around zero.

ZERO?!?! Yikes..... How far are you from Boseman? I was in Montana 2 years ago. Beautiful area. We stayed at Lake Hebgen. Except for the mosquitos it was a very nice vacation! My husband just rebuilt my motor, and is finishing my restoration of my 63 Dream. I was hoping it would be done before the rainy season here in CA, however, we have lots of nice days during the winter here, so I will still get some riding in hopefully. I am really trying to decide if I want to mount my Buco bags that we restored. They are pretty, but I am not sure they will go with the look im looking for. I asked hubby to leave them off for now. I want to ride it without the bags for a while, but I know it will get real old not having any place to put my stuff. I bought the bags off of Bill Silver a while back, and we completely restored them. I love the looks of them, but since I am going with a solo seat, Im not sure it will look right with a solo seat and saddlebags. We shall see.

As for the question.....it can be done and I have for small stretches but I'm not fond of riding my dream on the interstate. It's just too much trying to keep up with traffic and pretty light when the semi's go by.

That said, I often ride to work. It's appx 25 miles one way. I travel on a 4 lane but it's a 55 mph road. (along the Ohio River). The bike holds it own just fine there.

I would take mine on a day trip as long a I could pretty much stay off the interstates.
