Is this the correct bulb??

Post by Kigsby » Fri Oct 28, 2011 12:43 pm

I brought the old tail light bulb from my '62 Dream 305 to Advance Auto and they gave me a Sylvania 1157 which says 12.8/14V 27/8.3W Will that work?

Not yet. I saw the 14V and was worried that I would short something out or blow a fuse if I plugged it in! I thought I'd ask before I open the package in case it wasn't the right one and I had to return it.

If it is rated at 14v it will just be slightly dimmer on 12v. It just gives you a safety factor on the Dream which doesn't had every good voltage regulation.

I tried the bulb and it lights, but when I press the brake lever, it doesn't get brighter. When I press the brake pedal, it does get brighter. Is this the way its supposed to work or is there a wire loose somewhere?

The brake light ( the brightening you describe) only works on the foot brake pedal. There is no brake switch for handlebar lever. What you are describing is correct operation.

I think that you are agonising far too much - just go out and ride the thing.......
