Ideas For Painting

Post by jimpapa » Tue Nov 01, 2011 8:12 am

Hi, everyone.
i'm a very fortunate new owner of a 1967 dream that runs well.
not much to do on the bike but a new paint job seems in order.
i've search hundreds of images and all i can find is bike that are all red/white/ or blue.
i like the red but when i look at the bike i get the feeling its too red, needs some contrast?.
so i was thinking of maybe going a two tone.
the idea would be maybe the fenders and side covers are white and the rest red???
has anyone done this and have any pictures?
i tried using photoshop but i suck at it

I'm no where near the painting stage yet, but I've been thinking about a two tone as well. I was thinking white and maybe pale baby blue two tone, or white with red racing stripes down the middle! I just can't make up my mind, but I have plenty of time to think about it. I've googled some images for Dream 305 and got some good ideas.

Personaly I'd try to keep it as original as possible just for the resale factor. But properly placed pin-striping ads a LOT to these Dreams. I've seen some photos of it. Then they can be removed later on if desired.

I think that's where some of those old period correct chrome accents would help out. The fender tips etc. Rack on the back.
That would help break things up.

I felt that the plain black on mine needed some accent, so I decided to go with flames. I'm not quite done with the painting (tank to flame yet) but I think it will stand out. If it caused a resale problem it wouldn't be too big a deal to remove the flames, all were applied over several coats of clear coat so it would just be a matter of sanding them off and polishing.

That being said, I'm not sure what color flames would go with red, maybe yellow? wouldn't trust my judgement on that, my wife says I can't even match my clothes. :)

Kigsby, I like the idea of the baby blue with white idea! I like red/white, but I think the baby blue with white would be softer and compliment the lines of these bikes well. I can't wait to see what you end up doing with it!

If ya get a black stock seat for it, and add some of the chrome accessories, I think you'll be satisfied that the bike isn't too red.
