Primary and Cam chains

Post by Dr. Frankenstein » Sat Jan 07, 2012 4:10 pm

Can anybody confirm the part numbers for a 1964 OR a 1962 CA77 cam and drive chain?

The numbers I have are:
Cam Chain - 14401-259-000
Drive Chain(the one that goes to the rear wheel) 40530-255-000.

And/or what size does the bike take? I assume I can use a newer one( a chain is pretty much a chain) too, but what is everybody using on their bikes, and about how much do they cost?

Any input here would be much appreciated...

Thanks!

John

’66 parts manual shows only 14401-259-000 for cam chain. ’68 parts manual shows 14401-259-003 (Daido) and 14401-259-005 (Takasago) part numbers with the only difference apparently being the manufacturer. The application shows to be correct for all bikes in both manuals. Any DK219 chain of 94 lengths should work. But, if you are using a master link, be mindful that it must fit the specific chain you use. LM says the Honda master link will fit the EK219 in the red and yellow box and the RK219 in the red and white box.

For the drive chain, my ’68 parts manual shows the 40530-255-000 as the correct number for all Dreams. Kind of weird, the ’66 manual shows 40530-255-003 part number for all Dreams. I have no idea what the difference would be, but it must not be too significant. Both reference a DK525, 96 link chain.
