Clutch cable and side case swap?...

I have a Dream 305 engine with the early style clutch cable entry point coming in from the rear at a 45 degree angle. I am also considering having my side cases polished. Can I buy a replacement newer style side case and new clutch cable (entering the case from straight down) and have it be a correct fit to the older motor?

On a related note, are the left side engine (clutch) covers interchangeable from year to year? I have a CA77E-315562 engine that I believe is a late 1963 production.

I have a late 64 dream I needed to replace the right side cover on because of a broken eyelet for one of the screws. I bought one off ebay without noticing the difference between the early and later dreams. I also needed a new clutch cable and ordered one from Sirius. Well I ordered the wrong cable for my bike. It was for the newer dreams. So now I had a newer style side case cover and a later model cable. Guess what. Everything bolted up perfectly. If your side cover and cable are in good condition perhaps we could work out a trade.

Your post says you have a newer style side cover and a later model cable. Those two should work together. That's exactly what I'm looking to do. Replace my older case and cable (cable comes into case from 45 degree angle) with the newer (later) case and shorter cable that enters at a 90 angle to the case.

I'm sorry. I lost track of this post. To be clear, I have the newer style right side cover with the cable entering at 90 degrees from the top. My bike needs the side cover with the longer cable that travels through the frame and enters the cover at about a 45 degree angle from behind the rectifier cover. If your cable is in good working order and cosmetically decent I'd be willing to trade. I'll assume the side cover is undamaged.So that would be my side cover and cable for your side cover and cable.
