1964 Dream1964 DreamLet me start by saying I'm a follower of many forums and usually don't post, just use them for tech info and a laugh here and there. My dream, I bought just over a year ago and have worked on during that year doing electrical, clutch, oil leaks, carb work, brakes and cosmetic work. All done in between long enjoyable weekend rides with Harley dudes that have spent tens of thousands of dollars on their bikes drooling over the dream. I Love this bike I've had many bikes in my life and this is by far the most fun to ride. I recently bought the electronic ignition and installed it without a hitch. During the change over I encountered an issue with the petcock and everything I seem to do at this point makes the problem worse. I really like the look of the original petcock but at this point will be willing to change it out for something more reliable. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Michael Duh, that was TO easy!http://www.classichondarestoration.com/ ... d_253.html
Duh, Sorry not use to something for this bike being this easy to find... Never did a search for a kit just looked for seals. Sorry my fault for assuming this was going to an issue. I'll try and find something harder for you guys to look into.
Nice dream. harleys all look the same to me. Not many dreams out there at the vintage bike meets i go to. The dream gets all the looks.
Love mine. Where did you get your electronic ignition if i may ask? mine gets out of timing pretty easy. You can only tell on engine braking though. thanks in advance. steve ![]() 65 Sears Puch 250 69 Dream 305 74 Kawi H1 78 CB750 SS Petcock issuesPickle,
You don't say what issue you are having, but if it is leaking here are a couple of suggestions: 1. Make sure the 3 mounting screws are snugged up pretty tight, but not too much. Too loose and it will leak because the lever #5 will not have enough pressure between the two packing pieces. Too tight and the packing can distort and leak or at least make the lever hard to move. I have had the best luck with the cork packing B. Careful with those screws. They are JIS thread and very difficult to find. JIS heads, too so use a screwdriver that fits correctly in the head. 2. Make sure to clean the tip of fuel cock plate #6 and the hole in the body really well. As you are putting it together, give the top of the plate #6 a good tap to drive it all the way into the body. If it is not all the way down in the body, it will leak. There are replacement petcocks on ebay. I haven't tried one because I haven't needed to. Mine move easily and don't leak. If you like the looks of the original, it is worth taking a little time to get it where it will seal. I wish you the best on this project. I know how frustrating it can be as it took me a while to figure out the leaking petcock problem. BTW if you are looking for replacement hose for the crossover tube, 1/4 vacuum hose from NAPA looks correct. Just put some on last week. I know it will deteriorate and need to be replaced, but I got some "correct" hose from a popular vendor and it wouldn't seal around the crossover nipples and seeped constantly. I normally use gas with no ethanol to avoid that issue, but the "correct" stuff just wouldn't seal without hose clamps (which defeats the "original" look). It also started cracking alot sooner than I expected. Re: 1964 DreamContact this guy about his after market petcock. I have had two Dream and put them on both after dong battle with the OEM petcocks.
Best decision that I ever made. Hard to see a good shot of it but maybe you an get an idea from the picture below. "Eddie Carolan" <eddiecarolan@yahoo.com> ![]()
