Scram, I've been making some progress on the flat/street tracker. Engine is done, runs great, with a 3mm overbore, very tourqey. I made a right side pipe, but took a different route than most. I didn't want the sharp bend of the left cylinder pipe pipe, so they are now both right cyl pipes, and crossover. I using an early CL72 swingarm, and single leading shoe brake and hub, that will eventually be laced to a nice flanged aliminum rim. Front end is from an SL350, as is the front wheel, which shall also receive a flnaged aluminum rim when funds allow. I made the bracket for the SL speedo, mounted Pro taper bars with an adaptor kit, and made aluminum sidecovers. I will purchase an XR750 seat and fender kit for her soon. I rode it yesterday, just up the street, with a towel for a seat! Currently running straight pipes, waiting on some baffles. I'm still in mock up, and have more frame mods, and many other changes to make before I tear it all back apart, and start finish work. Here's some pics of her so far, hope you enjoy them.

Davomoto, I love your work and follow it when ever possible. Sounds like you've got a great start.

I also have a custom in the works. It's a very low mileage electric start, CA motor in a CL frame with an early swing arm. I won a pair of Koni shocks off Ebay that only need bolt collars. I welded a top engine hanger to the coil area (coil under seat) and I cut out the cradle tubes. All tabs and battery box are removed. I have a CB200 tank mounted and a flat track seat. The front end will be stock steel CL, low superbike bars and my custom disc brake hub with aluminum rim. The rear is a small hub with a 2.50 aluminum rim. I am doing the wire harness now. I am planning twin down exhaust, 2 into 1 with a centered supertrapp under the motor. I'll keep you posted when things progress. I need to get a picture posted also. Scram64

Interesting watching your custom projects, guys; and for LM to offer praise for a machine that strays from 'factory' is, indeed, an accolade.

Take the Super Sport (Superhawk to you fellas living 5hrs+ west of the Greenwich Meridian): IMHO, it should not be screwed about with, even to the point that the riser bars, more comfortable or not, ruin the look -- this from the owner whose CB carries a set of AM turn signals and air horns! -- but some will agree that there are exceptions when it comes to personalisations / improvements / preferences.... just look at how Vince has made his look so outstanding!

Now I'm not a big fan of the scrambler or café racer, but to each his own and whatever floats your boat; and the ingenuity behind what you are each achieving with your projects is what makes the 305-world go round.

So I doff my cap to you all!

Steve, I've got frames with no matching engines, engines with no matching frames, boxes of hubs, and parts o plenty. Rather than send them to the scrap man, I like to build an occasional custom. It is much more involved than a resto, in my opinion. The " correct " parts aren't just bolted on, everything is fabricated, thought out, mounted, refabricated, re-thought out etc. I typically shed 70+ pounds of weight off of a 305, and there is no better way to increase pefrormance, handling, and even braking. Now, I know the purists cringe at the sight of our customs, but how many people left them stock back in the day? I may have to do a chopper, and really piss some people off! Just kidding about the chopper! Here's s pic of what I did with a rashed and worthless oil filter cover.

Now, that is "racer's edge" weight saving. Perhaps Stefano Domenicali or Frank Williams could employ your services; their cars need some help to keep up with the Brawns next season!

Fear not, Scuderia Ferrari wil be back with a vengence! Saw a pic of an old CB77 racer that had the filter cover drilled like that. I had a rashed out cover, and with some sanding and drilling, it became quite useful.

I am planning clip-ons, cyb style or cr style seat, low pipes and megaphones, alum rims & de-tabbed frame. Right now, I am just gathering parts to get it running and acid rinsing the tank. Waiting on points, cables, headlight brackets, Bill S manuals and adjustable clip-ons. Haven't even started it yet. Still soaking the tank and figuring out the exhaust. Anyone know where I can get a set of cb headers? I'll probably get the Dunstall mufflers from JCW. So far, it has a new battery, new Redwing shocks, drained the oil and rinsed with kerosene/trans fluid, drained the fork oil, cleaned the carbs, replaced the battery connectors with heavy duty Home Depot parts and relocated the foot pegs. Never mind the upside down scrambler handlebars. Just put them on to push the bike around.

Anyone know where I can get a set of cb headers?
