I read through the posts on big end cages with some interest. Some years ago, I had a CB77(350) that was as good as anything in my neck of the woods.I used standard cages because I couldnt get the single slot race cages.They performed well enough, providing they were changed regularly. Eventually, I aquired some race cages and found that they required changing at the same interval as the standard ones. If the single roller to slot is the better option, why did Honda use the two roller per slot in the CR's and even in the six cyl engines? Can anyone enlighten me?

Twin rollers rub against each other and skid causing breakdown in the oil film and overheating at high revs.
Are you 110% sure that they used paired rollers in the sixes? If they did, it may have been because the cages are small and maybe they break with too many slots in them.

I've seen a picture of a dismantled Honda 6 big end and that had single rollers. Doesn't prove that they didn't use paired rollers just that they used single rollers as well.......

I use single roller cages on our racers. Cages are from 7075 billet and about $75.00 each. Have tried the Honda twin roller cages and they do not last in our application. The twin roller set up does however have something like a 16% greater loading capability (19 rollers single cage and 22 rollers twin cage). Crank life is about 1000 to1200 miles. All the best Jerry

Thanks for that info Jerry. G-Man, do you happen to have that photo? If you have, would it be possible to see a copy of it please? It really puzzles me! I was looking at a picture of the RC 116 engine in Honda Racing Legends Vol 3 (P65) and it clearly shows the 2 slot cage and rollers. I'm not trying to start an argument about this. Just trying to find a reasonable answer. Any comments will be appreciated.

The grooves in the cage originate from a Pops Yoshimura modification from when he was involved with Honda. It helps the oil flow through the assembly to both minimise wedging and dissipate heat. Nice photo. All the best Jerry
