My old CB77 cafe racer

Post by Hoosier Tom » Fri Sep 10, 2010 4:06 pm

I figured I better introduce myself. I'm Tom Laing from Logansport, IN. I've been into the 305s about 10 years now. I've met some of you at swap meets over the years. I met Vince at Mid-Ohio this year. I built this bike about 6 years ago. I made the megs myself, using 2 reducing washers for back pressure. I am running stock jets and airfilters with the 1st series Probe electronic ignition. Last time I rode the bike was a 2 day family ride a year ago. I got the bike out to prepare for this years family ride. I keep the bike on a charger so she started right up. I look forward to seeing you out on the road and on the forum.

Ed- I hope you're having a good time in Australia!

Nice custom ! I think you should have taken a different route with the tail light. Just doesn't flow with the rest of the bike.

Dave,

I agree with you. I had an aluminum bracket off of my right shock mount for the plate and the brake light neatly tucked under the cowl, above the wheel. Aesthetics were much more pleasing. However, after I almost got rear ended (lady claimed she didn't notice my tail light) I moved it using the original bracket. If it starts bothering me I will surely move it.

Nice....

Where did you get the tank and seat-tail from?

Thanks nc_rider. I got the tank and seat from Honda, they are from the Dream 50/Dream 50R. I had to move the fuel bung on the tank because it interfered with the frame. I cut the bung off an old CB77 tank so I could use a CB77 fuel valve. I also had to move the front tank rubber mounts to get proper fit and alignment.

No wonder they looked familiar!

It looks like the tank is still available for around $650, and the seat is about $100... but the tail section has been discontinued.

I like that a lot. I could make that tail section, so it might take a similar route when I convert my CB to cafe.

Glad the stuffs still available. At the time Honda had an aluminum race tank in the kits parts, but I never checked the price because I knew it would be too much.

Good luck on your project!
