I recently rebuilt my 160/175 race bike and would welcome help/recommendations for an accurate electronic tach.

Rode 3 sanctioned races at 2 tracks with reasonable finishes, successfully managed to avoid trouble and am looking forward to next years events.
My main focus was learning the courses, riding predictably and getting comfortable with the bike-- first time on a track since '72!

I did a track day this past Monday and confirmed that my 49 yr old mechanical tach will have to be replaced-- tach needle wavers and spikes like my cb77 speedometer, the rest of the mecanicals were ok, but my 1949 body needs a serious "do over"!!

I would prefer a less expensive option than a Scitsu-- any recommendations?

Bike has a Dyna crank fired ignition so the coil sparks every revolution.

Fortunately you have lots of choices. Your bike has what's commonly known as a wasted spark in that it fires both cylinders every revolution.

That happens to be what most 4 cylinder bikes do, so you can use an electronic tacho from almost any 4 from the seventies or eighties.

I have used tachos from an RGV 250 twin and from an RF900 and early GSXR and I have a few in stock. If you still need one, contact me through PM or email.

Hi Alan, Good luck with your CB160. I'd like to post Frank "Uch" Giannini's number if anyone is looking for excellent work on vintage race Honda's. Uch has built a CR77 replica few years ago by grafting a Suzuki top end on a CB77 bottom. 973-207-9086

Thanks Stan, I have seen Uch's work and that dohc bike is meticulously prepared, fast and dailed in! I believe this bike set the lap record at Mosport this past August.

His big bore CB77s are also incredibly detailed for speed and handling, he's been building fast CB77 since they were new!

Also have to give credit to the riders who happen to be fine people, a very cool crew.

Alan, you will remember tuner Eugene Klymenko from New Jersey, I happened to buy his personal CB160 Cafe bike remains back in the late 90's. It had orange "period" tank paint with pinstripes as I remember. I built a race bike out of it ten years ago.
