I think I might have tried the grass trick. Pleanty of it around at haymaking time?

You wouldn't win any TTs with tyres fitted like that though!

In Suffolk today and off to DSS Museum tomorow.

I think it goes in the filing system along with stuffing the tyres with grass in the event of a puncture, something else I wouldn't recommend but apparently something my dad had done, I suppose needs must, a long while before Green Flag or RAC Recovery.
