Barber Festival 2017 - other stuff in Alabama or Georgia ?

Post by Phil-UK » Fri Jan 20, 2017 1:36 pm

Hi

A group of 4 of us are going to the Barber Festival and Museum in Birmingham Alabama in October flying into and out of Atlanta from the UK and we wondered if there are any other bike related things worth a visit in Alabama or Georgia ?

Some of us have been before but we didn't find any other bike attractions but did have a great time visiting the USS Alabama and Pensacola so we don't mind a bit of driving.

cheers

Phil

I did Barber last year, but we flew into Washington and out of Atlanta, on the drive down to Birmingham we spent the night in Maggie Valley and visited Dale Walksler's Wheels Through Time Museum http://www.wheelsthroughtime.com/ it is mostly Harley and all American but a great place to visit. It is about 200 miles north of Atlanta.

Some really nice varied stuff in the Stugis Museum in South Dakota. Rather a long haul from Barber, though... :-)

There's a good aircraft museum near Atlanta.

Thanks Malcolm and Graham

Will see if we can fit in a trip to the Wheels Through Time museum.
Been in touch with the CAF Dixie Wing near Atlanta and they have a 2 Day show on but unfortunately it clashes with the Barber Festival... perhaps we'll do 2 days at the Barber then whizz up to Airshow for a day then do the Museum afterwards.

So much to see and so little time ...

Sunday is a non-day for the swap-meet most traders pack up Saturday night and a lot of the Club stands also leave Sunday morning too, you need to do everything Fri-Sat. Museum is not included in Festival price either, pay by the day or a weekend ticket.
