Rw, looking good! I've had several tanks that were bondo'd over the tank badge recesses, and stripper will remove it. The torch sounds like a good idea if it is indeed leaded. One caveat is that sometimes the clown that filled the recesses has also removed the tabs that the badges attach to. Good luck, and keep the pics coming!

Cribbs
Actually I used the "leaded in " as a reference to filling in and I believe it is most likely bondo body filler. I've considered removing it but for other concerns, read on.
Davo, That is the thing I would certainly be concerned about that the badge fasteners are gone. If so It 's not that big a deal to fill'em in again. Only one way to find out, Huh. What the heck, it's just another project.
BTW- I,m working on the other cover and it's coming along just fine. The first one I clear coated with laquer. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOps. Pay attention boy, RW

update

With the side covers coming along nicely, I now have to make the decission to either wait for a year correct tank and restore it thus not loosing the use of the bike or paint this one which is off of a cl72 parts bike.
I got lucky with the bondo in the tank badge recesses. The guy who filled them in did not prep the metel well so the bondo chipped out easily with a very small chisel. Lucky me, the fasteners were still there. I may prefer to save this tank for a project down the road which leaves me with even more questions about the proper tank for this 67 cl. But then that would better be addressed in another thread.
Thank you for the help on this one and I'll add pics when I get the right clear coat on. RW

This is my interpretation of candy blue. I went a bit darker since I don't have a photo to compare to.but I'm satisfied with the shade and that maters most. Thank ya'all for the help on this forum, now let's ride. RW
