paint color

As I slowly make improvements on this bike, I may start the paint process sooner that I thought and will need to match the "candy blue" as close as possible. So anyone out there have a paint number for this one? I've read posts til I'm blue in the face and do not see a blue for this model.

I too am almost ready to shoot tank and sidecovers in candy blue. I think it is the same as the candy blue for the 69 Z50A Minitrail. I'll see what I can find if no one has a good paint code. This would be a three step, silver, then a translucent blue, then clear coat. Of course, Honda didn't use a clear coat.

I hate to label myself as a non-purist but I would even settle for an auto grade enamel in rattle can with a clear coat if I can find a shade close enough to the real thing. I'm sure someone out there knows what will work so any help would be appreciated. Thanks RW

Rusty, here's one I've done on a Z50 before, and it came out really nice. base coat silver, I like the Rustoleum high heat silver. Top coat with testors translucent blue until you get the shade you're looking for. Here's a pic of my Z50 painted with this method.

Now that is a nice blue. I'll try this one on a side cover and see how it works out for me and keep this posted. Thank you for your help, Davo, RW

Well I did it! The attached photo is done the way Davomoto recommended and this is the result. I used the high heat silver as a base and then the Testers transparent blue #1257 layered to this shade. It's not perfect but since it is not a museum piece it's OK. The Testers is a VERY thin paint and a bear to work with but all in all well worth the effort if you can achieve the right results. I do believe I'll do the other side cover and then the tank if I can find one that is correct for this bike. The one I have is leaded in at the tank badges and I'd rather have one that is right.

UUUUUUUUUUUh --------OOOOOOOOOOOh Am I sounding like a purist? Hmmmmmmmmmmm,

Thank you Davo for your help.

Leaded you say? Maybe you could use a propane torch and just melt it out and sop it up with some wicking material. Just a thought. You might be able to find something to soak up the excess lead at a plumbing suppy store.

If it were me I would try that first, although if you have the cash then getting a new tank would be easier. Good luck
