Battery Voltage Slowly Decreases When Bike is Turned on

Post by paperslammer » Wed Jun 16, 2010 11:03 pm

Hey guys (and gals?)

I've got a CA77 1964 305 dream and I've charged my battery up. It's the kind with the blue top with see-through sides. When I turn the ignition switch to the ON position the little neutral light comes on and the battery jumps down to 10V. Then slowly the battery keeps losing voltage. I think I let it go down to ~5V then I stopped. The lights and brake light work initially, but then as the battery gets lower they dim / don't work (makes sense).

Does this mean the battery is just shot? When I unhook it from the bike or even turn the bike off, the battery voltage climbs back up to its initial charge. Any ideas?

Thanks!
