it says it can be neg ground or pos.

any thoughts?

Hi

Just had a quick look. I would guess that it's a full bridge rectifier and Zener voltage control all potted in to one heat sink. You should be able to do like we did with Lucas Alternators and have all of the generator coils in circuit (no load switching with the light switch) and just let the Zener sort everything out.

I have several of these in use on my Triumphs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tympanium-Elect ... ca&vxp=mtr An affordable alternative to the Podtronics units, they are used a lot in electric start riding lawn mowers. You could probably pick one up at your local small engine shop for around $35.

Hello Hill,
Several years ago somebody posted that he had used a bridge rectifier from radio shack.
At the time I was running total loss acid battery & had to watch my ride time carefully & luckily only walked once, which was enough.
I installed the bridge rectifier (very straight forward) & the only problems were 2 of the connector blades broke after 3000 miles within a week of each other. No complaints from me & the costs of parts was less than $10.
I would send the link, but my search skills are nonexistant!

Boy, I feel like mr DUMAS.
At the head of this section "Electrical- Wiring" ,is the sticky note about replacing the selenium rectifier!
That is the note that I followed, it works!

use a kohler lawn mower rectifier with the regulator built in. Its a win/win/win.
