I did replace the rectifier with one sourced from Radio Shack. It seems to be working fine.
What problems I'm having seems to be coming from the dimmer switch on the left handlebar.
Nearest I can tell the switch determines which charging circuit you're on.
My switch seems to be making poor contact and I sometimes get wild fluctuations in the voltage being delivered to the battery.
Could be I'm seeing ghosts or looking for something to tinker with. Dunno? : )
BTW. Outstanding job on that Dream.

Absolutely correct. On some bikes though, the dimmer has a 'dead spot' between Hi and Lo and this can cause confusion.

With these real facts I can now pursue some other directions.
BTW Where do you gEt 8' leads for your meter?

Lighting / Battery Issues
In response to the questions regarding the loss of battery power while running the lights... I use a trickle charger every time I park my bike. Further, I have removed my headlight bulb and replaced it with Denali D2 running lights (www.twistedthrottle.com). The bright mode will burn the chrome off the bumper in front of you if you're not careful! They are dual intensity, so can can dim your lights. I also run an LED tail light bulb (superbrightlights.com). This is my set-up but they may or may not work for you...
