DumbA$$ lost advance plate Anyone have one?

Post by aerojack7654 » Wed Jun 12, 2013 11:04 am

Hi,
I installed a new Sachse ignition (electronic ignition triggered from alternator rotor), and I removed the advance plate in the points housing since I didn't need it anymore. Well the Sachse unit has broken, and I'm going through the (long story) process of getting it repaired (in germany) and in the meantime, since I'm so bummed about it not running, I bought a Charlies place electronic ignition that goes on the advance plate. Well in my eternal stupidity I can't find the advance plate (spring and weights) - I fear I may have accidently thrown them away. Bottom line, I still can't get the bike going - so does anyone have a spare to sell - I can't find any on ebaY!

Thanks for your help,
Jack

Dang!
Sorry about that, it's for my 65 CB77 SuperHawk!

Thanks for pointing that out - more evidence of creeping senility....

OK - next question ... :-)

Do you mean the advancer (springs & weights) that lives in the middle of the cam or (more likely) the plate with the contact breakers on (under the right side cover)? If no-one more local comes up with anything - I have one of those....

Now I'm showing what a real dumba$$ I am - you just forced me to realize that I'm working on a 305 motor, not the 350 or 450 twins like my other bikes! They are the ones with an advancer mechanism behind the contact breaker plate, the 305's weights and springs are in the head! Arg! no wonder I can't find the advancer mechanism, it's not there! Thanks G-Man, at least I didn't throw it away, it was never there in the first place. Not creeping senility, more like galloping senility

I do have the actual contact breaker plate BTW, but I had thought I was missing the advance mechanism that, if this was a 350 or 450, sits behind the contact plate. Doh!

HaHa. I think Honda were pretty stupid hiding the thing in there in the first place!

Sounds like you're sorted now. :-)

Take care.
