Thanks

It sounds like I'll be rebuilding the motor myself. I do have some technical know-how (quite a lot of it) and a very keen eye for detail. I drag race slot cars as another hobby and I build all my own cars, motrs and each chassis. You guys can check out my website at www.banksslotcars.net to take look at some of the cars I've built.

Thanks for all the replies. I had no idea this wasn't a '62.

Welcome banksc; all like-minded forumers here.

All things considered, I'd reckon your project to be a '65:
  • Type-1 front forks (type-2 intro'd '67, 1030130>)
    Type-I speedo/tacho (Type-II intro'd '65, 1001731>)
    'Pre-'67' headlamp ring (intro'd in '67, 1051692>)
    Lip-up seat (late '65-on, 1034092>)
    'Pre-'67' taillight (intro'd near model-end in '67, 1056084>, also had chrome fenders)
Other details indicate '65>: wrapped seat strap (seat could've been changed), side grip, (addable), raised handlebar (changeable, but flat 'bar was used >1028216, documented as '66)

Whip off the tank and look for the wiring harness year tag.

G'luck and keep posting!

Steve

Thanks e3steve! I already have the tank off and alas the year tag on the harness is long gone. I have the bike down to the bare bones now and am removing the forks. It looks like someone had removed the front wheel in the past and put it back on backwards! Didn't even have the brakes hooked up or anything. I took pictures of all the wiring in the headlight before I cut it for removal so I have a record of what went where. The speedo cable wasn't attached nor were the light bulbs installed in the speedo so I am guessing that the speedo didn't work.

Found the year tag!

Everyone was correct! I found the year tag (taped over). It states "1965"! Here are some updated photos of the tear down and the year tag.
