Disassembling kickstart arm assembly

Post by Tim Allman » Thu Dec 25, 2014 12:55 pm

I would like to disassemble, re-chrome and assemble the kickstart arm assembly on my CB77. The strength of the spring makes it difficult (impossible?) to compress the spring and remove the retainer clip with any tools that I have. (I assume that there might be a special tool that I don't have.)

Has anyone managed to do this?

I've been thinking about making a tool as I have a couple to restore. You just need a kind of claw underneath and than a part with another claw to depress the collar. You might be able to weld some bits on to a set of vice grip pliers.

There has been some previous discussion here:

I found some other discussion too but I don't have a URL handy. Best to search for kickstart and see what you can find.

In the end though, this seems to be a difficult problem.
