my onging project ~ black dream 305

Post by cmineo » Thu Apr 23, 2015 9:04 pm

I found this gem in an airplane hanger late last summer. It was last run 20 years ago. It took 20 minutes to unbury it from a pile of junk, after I brought it home and cleaned it up I realized it only has 1100 miles on it and 100% complete. The rims were rusted up beyond repair so I decided to paint them black. It still has the original nitto tires on it, that are in awesome shape. I wanted a solo seat look, keeping a simple look, not the factory thick solo seat that was an option. So I hand made one. I still have everything except the two person seat, that went to a buddy that's restoring a dream. I wanted to put straight pipes on it for a streamlined look as well .... I like the old indian motorcycle designs and also the look of the bmw motorcycles from the 1950s, hence the custom cateye tail light bucket that Im making to bolt up to the factory mounting holes on the rear fender. im still torn between the cateye tail light and the triple beehive taillight that's in the pictures. I am still constructing the custom fender skirts that will be mounted in the rear fender well and the matching knee pads that are mounted directly onto the gas tank .... I hand painted the pin stripes throughout the bike too

here is a few pics of the bike still mocked up

That /2 style tail light housing is super cool. Kinda makes me want to try that on mine...

I dig the look!

the real challenge for me is to get it fit just right into the factory mounting holes

i took it out for its Maiden voyage today ... i had carb issues even after a rebuild... none the less now it has 3 more miles on the clock at 1111 ....

it ran just like i imagined it did in the 1960s .... real nice bike to ride around town

Great find mate! I'd love to be able to pinstripe like that. Can you put your location in with your name?
Brian.
