Do you mean that the dial is faded or just discolored? Mine have all cleaned up with normal hand washing gel. I worry about using a decal on there.
Middle is one I just restored, right is an almost NOS later speedo and left is one I haven't touched yet.
As for grease I just use very small quantities of a moly grease I happen to have. I used to repair cameras and it worked well on them. Just use a trace.
I'm trying to make some tools to straighten out damaged bezels next.

I used the hand washing gel, as you suggested, G, and the faceplate will NOT brighten up. The paint is completely dead on it. My only choice, as far as I know, is a decal. Now, the decal I have is a high quality "outdoor" type of applique, and it should be fine. If it dies sometime down the road, well, I know how to replace it! The bike is NOT going to sit outside for long stretches, so the sun won't have much of a chance to harm the paint or decals.

This is not assembled, just fitted together to get an idea. The odometer is fixed, I still need to put the decal on the faceplate. But, OMG, it's pretty!

G, now that you mention it, they would wack each other, wouldn't they? I too prefer the look of the early types, with the opposite sweeps on those gauges. Very symmetrical! The later ones, like mine, look nice, too, but they don't have the panache of the early models.G-Man wrote:Pretty indeed!
Interesting that the needles have to be different on the later speedos. On the early ones the needles are the same. I can see how they would interfere on the later type.

Thank you, by the way!
