thanks for the suggestions guys, found it, seems that the "How do I tune my factory stock motor on my CB72/77 or CL72/77 for optimum performance?" has a good step by step points adjusting method listed out. thanks! i probably said it on here before, but on my dart my dad did the points when we got it 7 years ago and then went to EI before points needed attention again, so my points skills are lacking, thanks all! busy this week, will tinker more after christmas and see what happens, thanks again!

the wording confused me for a bit, for example, where it said the light comes on "just" at f or lf, i thought it meant there and no where else. and there are multiple places that seem reasonable to put the alligator clip on the points, but i got it! holy crap i got it! haha...i gave it a pinch of ether on each side and it ran for a couple seconds! i need to get the carbs cleaned (obviously gunked up) is there a better carb rebuild kit or should i just thoroughly clean what i have? the throttle cable doesnt seem to be working right so maybe some pb blaster on that? by not working right, i mean, i can only turn the throttle a tiny little bit. i need to track down a rubber ring for the petcock, and replacing the fuel lines (my dart sat for 9 years with gas in it and it gave me no end of gas problems til i replaced the tank, entire line, filter, and cleaned out the carb again.) then put the tank, seat, etc back on, tires are a little dry, but cant do that yet. i owe the guy i got it from another 20 or 40 and then will start figuring out title stuff. oh man, super excited, thanks guys!

Good stuff, Andy! I don't envy you the carb cleaning that you must now undergo, but it'll all be worth it. And there's a plethora of topics on the subject; just start your keyword search here. As Ed (lm) and others will instruct: when using carb cleaner, DON'T soak anything rubber or thermoplastic(?) in it!
