update!hey guys, met tango911 from the forum today and got some drag style bars that i think will look really nice on my bike. super nice guy and helpful with info for a new guy! good thing i was picky with the bars, when i was undoing wires to swap bars i discovered a large mouse nest in my headlight housing, the mices had made snacks of some of my wiring! the headlight worked and the kill switch on the housing worked, but no neutral light and it would appear no spedometer/odometer lights as the wires are crap and no bulbs! gonna go ahead and follow instructions on here to clean up the odometer as long as its off the bike, rebuilt the harness tonight, polished the area around the bar clamps, ordered the low bar throttle cable last night, should be in end of this week.
so heres how its looking: (in no order, just things to do) 1. find bulbs for neutral light and spedometer/odometer 2. drill holes for wiring on new bars, after i decide if i want to shorten them a tad or not and install wires 3. check carb floats for proper level 4. get my petcock to gas tank gasket (ordered) and hook up petcock and new lines to tank and carbs 5. new throttle cable 6. put other stuff back together (removed one exhaust pipe while working on it, timing cover is off) take tape etc off back where i sprayed a little paint on the rear fender, put seat, tank, and taillight back on 7. find out what else is wrong haha! 8. new tubes and tires, clean and polish the bike thanks for all the help guys, still optimistic about getting it going before too long!
here it is with the bars, tank, and seat sitting in place
![]() ![]() cant decide if i wanna chop them a little or not, biggest issue would be if i drilled holes now, then cut them, then the hole wouldnt line up and id have and extra hole, weakening them right? i think they will look fine, need to turn them down a little probably, and will look better with brakes, and switches installed i think
thanks for the input, considering other mirrors, but cleaned and sprayed the ones that came with it tonight, so well see. cleaned and painted coils and coil brackets, put the tail light back on, took off tape and paper i put on the bike to paint the fender, one carb seemed good and the other one that i swapped floats from a parts carb i adjusted and it seems good, cleaned up spedometer/odometer with toothpaste, looks way better but scrubbed too hard in a few spots and scuffed the black parts, overall looks way better. cable should be in tomorrow according to tracking number, but may come after i leave the office (stuff gets stolen off my porch) and may not get it til thursday, and the gasket between the petcock and tank should also be in tomorrow but cant get to the honda dealer (dreyer, americas oldest honda dealer apparently) til saturday, getting so close!
so i forgot to take a side picture, but decided with the switches and brake/clutch levers it will be fine.
drilled holes, ran the wires, got the new throttle cable on, put the right side switch/throttle assembly together, then realized that i need to undo most of that to get the brake/clutch levers on! blah...live and learn, hopefully doing it wrong this one time will be enough to learn me! so tomorrow i will undo the wires i so carefully ran tonight, put the levers back on, rerun the wires, put the switches, throttle cable, grips etc back on. one thing that i keep having problems with is the sliders in the carbs get stuck at the top of the carbs. it was just the left one when i started tinkering, today its both. do i need to tighten the slack on my throttle cable or something? i tried sanding, (then thoroughly cleaning) the inside of the carbs and the sliders themselves, have used carb cleaner and cleaned both, put a little oil on them tonight and still sticking. i have some extra carbs but they are completely frozen up and overall have parts missing/broken. maybe my return springs need a boost? feeling closer all the time! my current goal for getting it completely running/moving etc is april, hoping to be able to ride it a couple hours north end of april to meet up with my girlfriends family for a weekend of camping, well see about that...
