Carb slide

Post by Dgormley » Thu Jan 27, 2011 12:04 am

Andy, Make sure the cable isn't hanging up and do not overtighten the carb mounting nuts as this will distort the carb bodies. Also, I personally wouldn't sand the slides or the carb bodies, just a good thorough cleaning.Good luck................................D

the sliders get stuck at the top with or without cables, (especially the left one) it seems that if they were out of round then the lids wouldnt fit right, and they fit pretty good, like i would expect them to anyway. i have a buddy coming to take a look and hopefully help tomorrow, might tinker some more tonight. this bike hasnt been plated since before i was born, so bringing in an older guy who knows his stuff to see it in person should be helpful. might try to get levers, cable, wires, etc all back together tonight, run to the honda shop tomorrow to pick up the petcock gasket. getting close!

found the problem, looks like i boogered up the left slide (right just needed cleaned better) when trying to get it unstuck (again, bike has been sitting for 28 years) was able to tweak it back to shape and smooth out the plier marks, think it is how it needs to be now.it goes all the way up and down without sticking, it sticks in one spot going in, but with the spring and lid on the carb, it isnt physically capable of getting stuck that far up. gonna show it to my friend tomorrow still and get a second opinion before putting it all back together. i really should be able to put everything back on tomorrow....

A stroke of luck there, Andy!

I think Scott (Spargett) has a pair of (my old) Keihin PW26s for spares.

cool, i am hoping to make these work for now, my spare set is real bad, once it warms up and i get to tinkering more maybe i will soak them in something to get everything loosened up. i need to buy a new trashcan too, the one full of parts that came with my bike has a hole in the bottom lol...

decided to run wires on the outside after pinching both sides at once! doesnt look bad since i have drag bars. put everything except the left side exhaust on (access to carbs, fuel lines etc)
and put about half gallon of gas in, and what to my wondering eyes should appear, but 2-3 pinholes on the bottom of the petcock! put gas in slowly to use as little as possible (bike is still in the basement lol) and nothing except with starting fluid. so added more, and then it just started spraying from the petcock. guess i need a new bowl...
got the back door open to let fumes out, but think i have plenty on myself, gonna go shower and call it a night for the bike, will move it to garage soon and get a petcock bowl and try again. i dont think it got enough gas to get through all the lines to the carb before it started spraying, but sounded good, taking it to the garage will also be better for an oil change that it needs asap. had dreams of putting around the neighborhood tonight on it, but guess not haha...
i did get bulbs for the instrument cluster today and got levers where theyre supposed to go etc. also finally sold our pool table so i got a few bucks, too bad all the shops are closed tomorrow and monday!
