Post by FAST FRED » Sun Jan 30, 2011 2:34 pm

Andy I still have a bunch of new JIS screws that will fit your dyno cover 5x20 oval, they are a little long but easy to shorten. PM me if I can help you.

got the petcock bowl jb welded, forgot how long it had been sitting in front of a halogen work lamp (no guard) and burned the heck out of my thumb and forefinger. literally saw it steam and "hssss".
bike is too heavy to get out of the basement by myself or with one roommate, maybe this weekend will have enough people around to get it to the garage. apparently some gas got through the system, tried to start with ether to show two friends who were over the other day and it actually ran for 5 seconds, which says to me that it had some gas and not just starting fluid. cant wait til this ice goes away!
also now that im trying to go up, im wondering how i managed to not kill myself taking it down the stairs with no help. i laid it over and bruised my butt, but no other damage to me or the bike...
also i saw the guy i bought it from tonight and finished paying him for the bike, now to figure out how to get a title...
he advocates getting it titled in vermont then switching to local next year? says theres some loophole. others have suggested applying for an abandoned title. it has been sitting since 83 (or thats the most recent plate anyway) and the previous owner was a friend of the guy i got it from, passed away a while back. might just call the bmv and see what they say? any thoughts on that whole process?

Andy,

I live in Logansport and have been through this process several times. Go here and download the forms I am listing. https://myweb.in.gov/BMV/mybmvportal/Ti ... Forms.aspx
Bill Of Sale - State Form 44237
Request for Motor Vehicle or Watercraft Records - State Form 46449
Affidavit Of Police Officer/Physical Inspection Of an Indiana Resident's Vehicle/Watercraft - State Form 39530
Affidavit Of Ownership For A Motor Vehicle - State Form 23037

The Affidavit for ownership form above tells you everything you need to do. I'll run it down in a nutshell. You have to get all these forms filled out before applying for the title. As long as the vehicles worth is less than $5,000 it's not a problem. Fill out the Bill of Sale and have the seller get it Notarized- you have to have a notarized Bill of Sale to present to the license branch. Now remember, you are going to pay sales tax to the state depending on what purchase price is claimed.
Next you have to send in to the state to see if they have any records of title/ownership. Anything with no activity 10 years or greater is tossed out of the computer system. Only give the VIN, if you have an old plate number or registration number I wouldn't bother giving it. Check the "Title Inquiry" box. It will cost you $4. If they find nothing they send you a statement saying- "No Records Found" That is what you want and include that with your paperwork. You shouldn't need to check any boxes in section 4 as you are not seeking "personal Information". This is an updated form, I have only used the issue prior to this.
In the mean time you need to get a police inspection done on the bike. They are going to run a VIN check to make sure it's not stolen then sign off on the form. Then you fill out the Affidavit of ownership and head to the license branch. It seems the further north you go in Indiana the more anal the license branch offices are. I'm not guaranteeing you anything as you are dealing with a bureaucracy, but I've never had a problem. Give me a shout if you need help with the forms. make sure you put the frame number for your VIN, CB77-XXXXXXX and not the engine number.
BTW, what is your frame number so we can figure out a model year for you?

Good Luck- Tom
