Scott,
I gotta kick out of your "Purist" comment. Like you, I installed two pair of EMGO running lights on my 66 Scrambler because I wanted greater visibility at night time. The rears illuminate for braking as well as just running lamps, and the polished aluminum doesn't look all that bad either. The only issue I have is the front lamps. I couldn't find a suitable collar for the fork mount look, so I opted to mount them at the headlamp bucket bolt location using a 1" polished extension so as to limit the "washout" from the head lamp itself. Overall...mission accomplished.
