I won't tell you how long it took me to get my engine back together and hung on the bike - or how many times I had to remove it to chase an oil leak!! Awesome job!!
Hey, I answered your question about the petcock. Classichondarestoration.com had rubber parts that have stood the test of time.

DUH!
I have been chasing a problem with my kick starter for many days - it just doesn't seem to grab even though the ratchet is in good shape. I even opened the bottom end to check everything out and couldn't find anything wrong.
I started writing a post under the "Transmission" topic to ask how the rotation got transferred through the transmission to the crank. Then it occurred to me that there is NO connection between the transmission and the crank EXCEPT through the clutch.
Now it has been somewhere around 45 years since I owned a 305 and all the other bikes I have owned it is usual to hold the clutch in when using the kick start.
Just for the halibut I took a walk to the shop tonight and tried the kick start WITHOUT holding the clutch. Funny, the manual doesn't say you can't hold the clutch LOL!
Like I said, DUH!
