Help! charging numbers all over the map!

First off I've checked all the threads. Not charging originally so on the advice of forum members changed up to modern rectifier and hooked it up as per snakeoils excellent diagram. The voltages I get are the same as before I replaced the old rectifier and they are all over the map. Fluctuating wildly by the second from 2 to 10 then back to 3 then 6 then maybe a 14, just nuts. Checked resistance between generator wires. Between yellow and brown 2 ohms. Between pink and brown 1.2 ohms between yellow and pink 2.8 ohms and none of them are grounding out. Apart from a carb problem ( sooty plugs ) the bike fires right up and idles and accelerates just fine. Any help woul be gratefully accepted. Don't make me push it off a dock!

Sounds like instrument problem? Have you tried a different meter? Where are you measuring the fluctuation at?

Well never thought of that. The readings are taken across the battery terminals with a digital meter that has never given me problems but will try my analog meter. Thanks for the advice.
