My Dream Begins (Restoration Project)

Picked up this 65-66 CA77 a few weeks ago;

The wiring is mostly intact;



Did you notice the awesome toggle switch brakelight switch?


Now the bad stuff:


The slide inside the carb that holds the throttle cable is stuck (won't slide) I sprayed some carb cleaner in there, hopefully it'll loosen up.


I can't remove the oil dipstick;
I've sprayed PB Blaster on it, I'm hoping that loosens that up. The PO gave me an extra tank but I need to pull the petcock off the old rusty one. PB Blaster on the petcock screws;


The remaining misc. parts I have;




New battery and Tank repair kit.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

There is a list of vendors in the superhawk section

Members here are good to share info and help with parts when they have extras

I would try boiling that carb in a pot of water and simple green

Welcome Bradha562! I too had just bought a CA77 Dream in July and it is next in line for my restoration projects. I think I have some time before it gets too cold in the garage to work on it.

I NEVER heard of boiling water and Simple Green. I'll have to try that on my next "stuck" item.

Thanks for the reply Brew. Have been scouring ebay since I picked her up. I didn't post any pics but I also have the coil, air filter and tank sides with knee pads. My focus is on getting her running then hopefully being able to ride her as is and then making her look better. What else do you see that I need to get her running? The engine isn't frozen and the kicker has compression. Here is my starting list of things I know I need;

Fuel lines
Spark plugs
Points and condenser

Do you think I can salvage the solenoid?


I can't get the throttle cable out of the carb to soak it. I've seen a youtube vid of the slide being put back in but since the slide is stuck is there another way to get the cable out? I've been spraying PB Blaster on the oil dipstick and tapping at it with a wooden dowl and mallet, still no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks again.

Does the solenoid work? You should be able to open it up to check the contacts.

I'd at least remove the clutch cover to have a look at the inside of the gearbox. Hopefully there is no water in there.

I can't suggest anything on the dipstick, except maybe a little heat (carefully applied).

The rims look pretty bad from the photos, you might need to replace them - unless you already have some wheels for it.

The eBaY suggestion is a good one, almost essential (it was for me). There are a surprising amount of parts on there for the Dream (and the other 72's and 77's).
