Last year, I picked up this little beauty that had been sitting in a shed for ~20 years. I have been riding triumphs for the past while and really like the older style look. So I thought I best get back to my roots and see what working with a real classic was like.
I've been a freelance mechanic for the past 15 or so years and was anxious to get my hands dirty in this bike. I knew it wasn't gonna run anytime soon so I started tearing it down to see the guts.
The engine and tank were completely dry (how I do not know). The tank is rusty inside and there are a few pinholes on the bottom that I discovered only recently after painting it.
The pipes hadn't been on it the whole time it had been sitting, and in the western NY humidity, the cylinders were a little rusty. So I have the engine over at Roc City Cafe Racers right now getting bored out to 400cc (I hope that was a good idea). For the most part I've been working cosmetically on the rest. Painting the frame and coverings periodically.
I'm out west at school for most of the year, so this is my project to keep me occupied during my stays here in the summer, so it's by no means anything with rapid progress. Which is nice, I think. But here's my build so far. Any suggestions, questions or comments are welcome.

Hi. I think your carbs look perfectly salvageable. Take a stiff bristle brush and degreaser to them to get the loose debris off. Then take them apart so you can get all the jets and valves out .Organize everything into separate and clearly labelled containers for left and right carbs. Fill each container with straight Pine Sol and let soak for a couple days then check progress. Clean your jets with something physically solid like jet cleaning wire or a copper strand. Don't worry about any rubber o-rings; they will swell slightly and then return to size. What have you got to loose? Take before and after photos like you already do. Welcome to the Forum.

400cc400cc = $$$$ if you want any relability. Are you sure these guys are really up for this task? That's gonna take about a 70mm piston with stock stroke. Or are they gonna whip you out a stroker crank too ? Now that would really be cool ! LOL
