A little about me. My name is Andrew and I am 35 (today) and recently acquired a neglected (read rusted) 65 superhawk. 9 hours of driving, $500 and a superhawk was in my Rav4 and unloaded into my garage. I have a little bit of restoration experience in bringing back a 1986 yamaha ysr50. I am fairly mechanical but do not know all the correct terminology and this will be my first 4 stroke teardown.
Parts I know I will need:
Right tank pad
Badges
Exhaust (both mufflers and at least one header)
Chain.
Flipper
New seat cover eventually

I have begun my diss-assembly and almost to the point of dropping the engine. I just acquired a Harbor Freight sandblast cabinet and have been having fun today blasting small parts.

Here it is as I got her. Extra parts that came with it include a luggage rack and an extra petcock. The tank is in good shape but will need to be derusted. Only other major issue so far is the right crankcase cover is broken but my brother is going to attempt to weld it, if that fails i will be seeking a replacement.
One interesting note is that this bike has had 3 colors. The ugly blue on it now, a purple gold flake below that, and finally the original black. This includes the tail light bracket (I know Ed says they were silver, i saw no evidence of that when stripping mine)

Tail light brackets were black on black bikes and silver on red or blue bikes.

You're lucky! A lot of the hard to find parts are there and look really good - front fender, rear fender, air cleaner covers.

The rubber parts are available as reproductions. You should be able to find them all. Badges are also available as reproductions.

Mufflers, well.... Originals are hard to find in good shape, but you can. Keep your eyes open. There are aftermarket, like Dunstall, and they get good reviews. Header pipes can be found used.

David Silver Spares is on the verge of selling reproduction mufflers at around $550. I'm told that they will be available after Christmas.

Thanks everyone. I am following David Silver Spares on Facebook and did see that. I wonder how bad shipping to the US will be. For that much I will let someone else be the Guinea Pig :) This weekend I plan on dropping the engine and taking it down to the basement shop. How heavy are the engines dry?

Umm, heavy! But, I'm at a disadvantage, being female and all. Still, it might be a good idea to have help?

Any secret to getting the brake cable out of the rear hub?
