I just bought a 305 scrambler. The bike is titled as a 66 and has frame CL771032393 and engine CL77E1021028.

Both bikes are non matching numbers. 305s usually run much closer but rarely a true match. My 66 CL77 has only one number difference and I believe that's unusually close. I believe 30-50 is common and some have said there could be as many as a couple of hundred. Both your frames are significantly newer than their engines. But then, who cares? You've got two CL77s, what could be better? I purchased a CL350K1 at Mid Ohio last year. It was represented as an original survivor but there are about 3,500 numbers between the engine and frame. Post some pictures of your scramblers.

It looks like the engine in the second bike is in the proper serial number range to "match" the first bike.

You're absolutely right Stan. I can't believe I missed that. Good eye!
