1964 CA77 (1st project!)

Hey everyone

Just bought a 1964 CA77 for $300. I'm a teacher with summer's off, so I wanted to get a decent project for this summer. Tomorrow I will put up some pictures of it. First thing's first with it; cleaning out the gas tank and taking off the engine and carbs!

So I started with some general cleaning. I removed the tank which will need a thorough cleaning inside and out, removed the seat which was in remarkably great shape, and began scraping scum. To whomever recommended WD-40, many thanks! That has made cleaning this crap a LOT easier. I'm doing what has been recommended with the boards; I am searching and reading for info instead of blatantly asking for it. I'm a teacher, and it wouldn't be fair if I didn't do my homework!!! It's great seeing all the info you guys have posted, so again much thanks.

Pics shortly to come. Been incredibly busy and can't get enough time on the comp for pleasure.

Here are the photos finally! Had a day off for interviews, so figured I would sneak in a little time to post. These are the photos of the bike when I purchased it. Since I have removed the seat and tank, and have done a bit of scrubbing on the frame.

Definitely reaching the point of no return. Took off the handlebars, cut a ton of wires (planned on replacing them anyway), and started to work on the engine. As you all have said, those screws are a pain. Unfortunately I think I'm going to have to drill the heads off a lot of them and get them replaced. I'm not terrible comfortable with doing this step, but I figure it's a helluva time to learn!

Buy an impact driver and try that first. You'd be surprised.

I've been reading on here that a lot of people discourage that method. I'm open to anything (the impact driver sounds easier, I will admit)
