Mystery Top Cone Race

Post by Bob750 » Tue Mar 26, 2013 12:44 pm

After determining that the steering bearings in our 1964 Dream 305 needed replacement, back in October I ordered what I thought was a proper part off eBay. I gathered other parts from Ohio Cycle and Bike Bandit. Yesterday, I finally disassembled the front of the bike to get at the bearings. After removing and cleaning them all to inspect them, I pulled out the new parts to compare, and one of them struck me as just plain wrong.

What I paid for from this eBay seller was "NOS 61 Honda CA72 CA77 Steering Cone Race 53211-253-305." (Click and scroll down to see the old listing.) And when I received it I didn't know there was a problem because I couldn't see the one in the bike. Plus, at the time, we'd only owned the bke for less than 2 months. But yesterday I discovered this eBay race is for some other application, and the seller must have been misinformed. I've given the dimensions of my old part and this new part for comparison. There are also photos to compare.

I'd like to know what it is, so I can resell it as what it really is, and recoup some money, while I buy a new correct one...

Thank you for any help you can provide!
