For the record, mine were from hdhummer too. In his message to me he worried that his whole batch might be bad.chico wrote:Yes my rubber on the left side looks just like dkwilfert's, and they are hdhummers.

left bank,rubbers
I readjusted timing, but can't start it because I've got the kick side off to replace clutch rod seal, boy it was realy pucking oil out. But on the rubbers the right side did'nt melt. Today I am 59 and holding....any thing I can.

rubbers reply to e3steve
Yes they did, I was suspect when I got them, but did'nt think to much about it. I have to dig out the slip I got from him and call to see if he wants to do any thing about them. Thanks for the wish. Here's a pic of rubber.

You need to follow Ed's points adjustment exactly. The first time I started my CB77, I did as you did just to get it started and only one side was firing. If you put your hand behind the pipes and feel the exhaust gas, if one side is cold, it isn't firing on that side. (Caution, don't tough the pipes, I got a nasty burn by grabbing the hot pipe. But I was only 49 at that time :) It will run, but it will lack in power. I then tuned the points exactly like it reads in the FAQ here, it now starts with just a bump of the starter button.
If your seals are defective, it would explain why the hot side melted and the other didn't.
