Piston size

I apologize if this has been covered. Blame my search technique.

If the engine needs to be rebuilt-frozen or poor compression how do you determine the proper size piston and ring size. I see .25, .5 etc. over. Do you determine the ring size after the sleeve is replaced or bored out?

Just want to know what to order if I need to.

Determine what size, or oversize pistons are in there now. Then take the cylinder to the machinst that is going to bore it, and he will be able to determine what oversize you need.
