after a fresh top end job, my 1967 CL 77 is having some starting issues. I have good spark, good compression, and fresh fuel. the carbs have been cleaned and kits installed. Bike seems to run on one cylinder and then die. I still suspect a fuel issue.
My real question is how much room for error is there in setting the timing using the T mark on the rotor and the punck mark on the top cam chain gear. I was careful and plodding while setting up the cam chain (good tention) with the master link on top of the cam gear and sighting bye eye that the punch mark was at 12 o'clock. Is it fuel issue that keeps it from firing up or am I guilty of overlooking a timing/cam postitoning issue. All plugs new, whole damn top end reconditoned and I want to scoop around on the cafe bike that it has become. thank you everyone,...a lot. Big Al

Have you done Eds' tune up recipe? If not, do it to the T. Fuel in both float bowls? There is a screen on the banjo bolts that attach the fuel line nipples to the carbs. Most of us discard them as they plug too easily.

Tune
Albert, I revisited Ed's tune up recipe several times. When I got it "Spot On" the bike ran/runs like a champ. It took me at least 3 times to get the timing/points just right. Do not omit any of the details as trivial as they may seem, I thought I could simplify/take shortcuts. When timing make sure you roll the engine over a few times and double, triple check. Good luck............................D
